| Tamarindo, located midway
along the beaches of Guanacaste, is a wide, white-sand
beach, a favorite among surfers. However, it also appeals
to any tourist, offering great snorkeling, boating,
kayaking, and diving. Development has increased considerably
in recent years, and accommodations and restaurants
are available to suit every budget. The town itself
is lively, offering the best nightlife in the area.
Water sports
The most popular pastime in the area is definitely
surfing, and you may feel you are in California, rather
than Costa Rica. The largest place to rent surf equipment
is the Iguana Surf Aquatic Outfitters. They also offer
tours and professional lessons. Cost for a full day
rental is $25 per surfboard. Snorkeling equipment, boogie
boards and sea kayaks are also available for rent.
Tamarindo Rental & Tours is another place you can
rent aquatic sports equipment, in addition to beach
gear and bikes. They can also arrange tours and have
a souvenir shop.
Sportfishing is another great activity to take advantage
of while visiting Tamarindo. The company, Tamarindo
Sportfishing boasts a 38-foot boat. Papagayo Excursions
is also a great center, located only 20 minutes from
the edge of the continental shelf. Two other options
are Warren Sellers Sportfishing, and Capullo Sportfishing,
All half-day trips are between $250 and $600, and full-day
trips cost between $500 and $1000.
Scuba diving is also a great water activity that allows
you to explore the diverse aquatic life that Tamarindo
has to offer. If you are interested in scuba diving
contact the Agua Rica Diving Center.
